The Manipur Secondary Education (Fifth Amendment) Act, 2004

(1) This Act may be called the Manipur Secondary Education (Fifth Amendment) Act, 2004. (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the official Gazette, appoint.

In the long title of the Manipur Secondary Education Act, 1972 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), for the words "Secondary Education", the words "Elementary and Secondary Education" shall be substituted.

In section 2 of the principal Act, - (a) after clause (d), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:- "(da) "Elementary Education" means education imparted at the primary stage (classes I to V) and the upper primary stage (classes VI to VIII); (b) after clause (g), the following new clause shall be inserted, namely:- "(ga) "Higher Secondary Education" means Higher Secondary Education as defined in the Manipur Higher Secondary Education Act 1992 (Manipur Act No. 4 of 1992)"; (c) in clause (j), for the words "Secondary Education", the words "Higher Secondary Education" shall be substituted; (d) for clause (n), the following clause shall be substituted, namely :- "(n) "Secondary Education" means such education as is designed to meet the needs of the students which follows immediately the stage of Elementary Education and precedes immediately the stage of Higher Secondary Education;"

In section 4 of the principal Act, for the words "Secondary Education", the words "Elementary and Secondary Education" shall be substituted.

(a) for clause (v), the following clause shall be substituted, namely :- "(v) to prescribe courses of instruction for the Elementary Education and Secondary Education"; (b) for clause (ix), the following clause shall be substituted, namely :- "(ix) to lay down conditions of recognition of schools for the Elementary Education"; (c) for clause (x), the following clause shall be substituted, namely :- "(x) to recognize schools for the Elementary Education and the Secondary Education"; (d) in clause (xi), for the words "Secondary Education", the words "Elementary and Secondary Education" shall be substituted.

For clause (f) of section 24 of the principal Act, the following clause shall be substituted, namely :- "(f) conditions of recognition of schools for imparting the Elementary Education and the Secondary Education".
