In section 2 of the Principal Act,— (1) In clause (a)— (i) for the words “ancient monuments” occurring in the first line, the words “ancient monument” shall be substituted; (ii) for the word “imertion” occurring in the second line, the word “inscription” shall be substituted. (2) After clause (b), the following clause (bb) shall be inserted, namely,— “(bb) ‘archaeological officer’ means the archaeological officer appointed by the State Government for the purpose of this Act;”. (3) For clause (k), the following shall be substituted, namely,— “(k) ‘protected area’ means any site or area declared to be protected area under section 4 for the purpose of this Act;”. (4) For clause (l), the following shall be substituted, namely,— “(l) ‘protected monument’ means the monument declared to be protectd menument unier section 4 of the Act;”.

In section 5 of the Principal Act, the words and inverted commas ‘or “protected areas” respectively’ occurring in the third and fourth lines and the words “or areas” occurring in the last line, shall be deleted.

In section 4 of the Principal Act, the words “by notification” wherever they occur, the words “by notification in the official gazette” shall be substituted.

In sub-clause (d) of sub-section (2) of section 6 of the Principal Act, for the words “or any Section or” occurring in the first and second lines, the words “or any section thereof or to” shall be substituted.

In section 10 of the Principal Act,— (a) in sub-section (1) for the word “representation” occurring in the second line, occurring in the penultimate line, the words “representation in writing” shall be substituted; (b) in sub-section (2) for the words “in the same manner” occurring in the second line, the words “in such manner” shall be substituted.

In sub-section (2) of section 14 of the Principal Act, for the words “bringing such materials and” occurring in the fourth and fifth lines, the words “inspecting the monument and for the purpose of bringing such materials and for the purpose of” shall be substituted.

In sub-section (1) of section 19 of the Principal Act, after the word “mining” the words and commas “quarrying, excavating, blasting or any” shall be added.

In section 21 of the Principal Act, for the word and figures “Section 24” occurring in the first line, the words and figures “Sections 22 and 24” shall be substituted and for the word “Superintendent” occurring in fifth and sixth lines the words “Deputy Commissioner” shall be substituted.

In section 22 of the Principal Act, the word “Superintendent” occurring in the penultimate line, the words “Deputy Commissioner” shall be substituted.

In sections 23 and 26 of the Principal Act, the words “Compulsory purchase” wherever they occur, the words “compulsory acquisition” shall be substituted.

In section 27 of the Principal Act, for the words and brackets ‘on (or)’ occurring in the first line, the word “or” shall be substituted.

In subsection (1) of section 41 of the Principal Act, the comma and the word “applies” after the figures “1958” occurring in the last line shall be deleted and following shall be inserted,— “and the Antiquities and Treasures Act, 1972 (Central Act No. 52 of 1972) apply.”.
