This Act governed the non-agricultural universities of Maharashtra, including their authorities, officers and the appointment of teachers. A 2015 amendment provides that a temporary vacancy for a university teacher lasting more than a year must be filled on the recommendation of a selection committee, with a quorum of three including an expert.

  3. 78. Provided further that, before the expiry of one year as aforesaid, the Vice-Chancellor shall take steps to fill up the post by appointment in accordance with the provisions of the section 76.
