The Invalidation of Hindu Ceremonial Emoluments Act, 1926
General19266 sections
This Act regulates the rights of hereditary Hindu priests and their heirs to claim fees for religious ceremonies in the Presidency of Bombay. It invalidates the automatic right to claim such emoluments if the Hindu does not specifically request the priest's services. Furthermore, the law relieves hereditary priests of their obligation to perform these services, provided they do not hold inam land or receive a cash allowance. If they do hold land or receive allowance, they may opt out of service duties by paying full revenue or forfeiting the allowance, though their right to the land or allowance itself remains unaffected.
