Bare Act
The Bombay Land Tenures Abolition (Amendment) Act, 1953
The Bombay Land Tenures Abolition (Amendment) Act, 1953, was enacted to standardize and streamline the compensation process for landholders whose rights were extinguished under various land tenure abolition laws in the State of Bombay. The Act mandates that compensation be paid in the form of transferable bonds carrying a 3% annual interest rate, repayable over a twenty-year period. It also provides a mechanism for converting previously issued non-transferable bonds into these new transferable instruments. For the ordinary citizen, this legislation ensured that former tenure holders received structured, interest-bearing financial compensation, providing economic stability during the transition from feudal land systems to modern land revenue administration.
