The Maharashtra Police Officers (Change in Designation) Act, 1962
1. Short title and commencement.
- (1) This Act may be called the Maharashtra Police Officers (Change in Designation) Act, 1962.
- (2) It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
2. Designations of certain police officers changed.
The present designation of the Superintendent of Police in any area under the charge of the Commissioner of Police, and that of the District Superintendent of Police in any other area, is hereby changed to Assistant Commissioner of Police and Superintendent of Police, respectively; and accordingly, any reference by whatever form of words to the Superintendent of Police, or as the case may be, to the District Superintendent of Police, in any law for the time being in force, or in any instrument or other document, shall, after the commencement of this Act, be a reference to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, or as the case may be, the Superintendent of Police.
3. Consequential amendments in certain enactments.
The enactments specified in column 1 of the Schedule are hereby amended in the manner, and to the extent, shown in column 2 thereof.

THE SCHEDULE
THE SCHEDULE. (See section 3.) Amendments 2 The Bombay Police Act, 1951 Act 1
- (1) Throughout the Act (including the marginal notes), except as otherwise expressly provided, for the words “District Superintendent”, wherever they occur, the word “Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (2) In section 2, in clause (6), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted.
- (3) In section 8,—
- (a) in sub-section (1), for the words “a Superintendent” the words “ a Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted ;
- (b) in the marginal note, for the word “District,” the words “Superintendent and”, shall be substituted.
- (4) In section 10,—
- (a) in sub-section (1), the words “and one or more Assistant Commissioners” shall be deleted;
- (b) in sub-section (2), the word “or Assistant”, at both places where they occur, shall be deleted ;
- (c) in the marginal note, the words “and Assistants” shall be deleted.
- (5) In section 11 ,— (Bom. XXII of 1951).
- (a) in sub-section (1), for the words “Superintendents of Police” the words “Assistant Commissioners of' Police” shall be substituted ;
- (b) in sub-section (2), for the words “A Superintendent” the words” “An Assistant Commissioner” and for the words “the Superintendent” the words “the Assistant Commissioner” shall be substituted ;
- (c) in the marginal note, for the word “Superintendents” the words “Assistant Commissioners “shall be substituted. The Bombay Village Police Act, 1867 (Bom. VIII of 1867). The Bombay Prevention of Gambling Act, 1887(Bom. IV of 1887). (6) (7) (1) (2) In section 12, in sub-section (2), for the words “a Superintendent of Police” the words “an Assistant Commissioner” shall be substituted. In section 63AA, in sub-section (1), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the word “Superintendent” shall be substituted. In section 1, for the words “District Superintendent” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. In section 4,—
- (a) for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted ;
- (b) in the marginal note, for the words “District Superintendent” the word “Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (1) In section 6,—
- (a) in clause (ii), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted ;
- (b) in the proviso, for the words “ the District “the words” the Superintendent of Police “shall be substituted.
- (2) In section 11, for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. The Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949 (Bom. XXV of 1949). In section 128, in sub-section (1),—
- (a) for the words “a Superintendent of Police” the words “an Assistant Commissioner of Police” shall be substituted ;
- (b) for the words “a District Superintendent of Police” the words “a Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. The Bombay State Reserve Police Force Act, 1951(Bom. XXXVIII of 1951).
- (1) In section 5, in sub-section (1), for the words “a District Superintendent” the words “a Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (2) In section 6, in sub-section (1), for the words “a District Superintendent” the words, “a Superintendent” shall be substituted. The Bombay State Commissioners of Police Act, 1959 (Bom. LVI of 1959). The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1890 (XI of 1890).
- (1) In section 2, in clause (a), the words “or Assistant Commissioner of Police” shall be deleted.
- (2) In sections 4 to 8 (both inclusive), including the marginal notes, for the words “District Superintendent of Police”, wherever they occur, the words “ Superintendent of Police ” shall be substituted.
- (1) In section 8, in sub-section (1), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted.
- (2) In section 10, in sub-section (1), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (Hyd. I of 1313 Fasli). In section 5E, in sub-section (1), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. - (1) In section 83,—

- (b) in sub-section (2), for the words “District Superintendent” the words “Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (2) In section 85, for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” and for the words “District Superintendent” the word “Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (3) In section 86, in sub-section (1), for the words “District Superintendent”, wherever they occur, the word “Superintendent” shall be substituted.
- (4) In section 95, in sub-section (2), for the words “District Superintendent of Police” the words “Superintendent of Police” shall be substituted. The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 (II of 1947). In section 5A, in clause (b), for the words “a Superintendent of Police” the words “an Assistant Commissioner of Police” shall be substituted.
