The Maharashtra Municipalities (Temporary Postponement of Elections to Municipal Councils) Act, 1991
1. Short title and commencement
1. (1) This Act may be called the Maharashtra Municipalities (Temporary Postponement of Elections to Municipal Councils) Act, 1991. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 10th May 1991.
2. Definitions
2. In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "Administrator" means an Administrator appointed under clause (b) of section 318 of the Municipalities Act; (b) "Municipal Council" means a Municipal Council constituted or deemed to have been constituted under the Municipalities Act; (c) "Municipalities Act" means the Maharashtra Municipalities Act, 1965; (d) words and expressions used in this Act but not defined shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them in the Municipalities Act.
3. Postponement of elections
3. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Municipalities Act or any rules or bye-laws made thereunder, or any judgment, decree or order of any Court to the contrary, or any notification issued by the State Government or the Director of Municipal Administration, in that behalf, the elections to the Municipal Councils, which are due to be held on or after the date of commencement of this Act, but before the 31st December 1991, shall be postponed for such period not exceeding the 31st December 1991, as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify.
