Bare Act
The MP Redressal of begging Act 1973
This law applies to the whole state of Madhya Pradesh and makes it illegal to beg in public or on private property. It defines begging broadly to include soliciting alms, entering homes for money, or showing injuries to get donations. The state government can set up centers to help beggars, and police officers are authorized to arrest people found begging without a warrant. If caught, a person may be sent to a receiving center for detention, and habitual beggars can face up to six months in prison. Additionally, anyone who forces or employs others to beg can be punished with up to one year in jail or a fine. The act aims to manage begging through detention and rehabilitation rather than just punishment.
