The Madhya Pradesh Neat Cattle Slaughter Prohibition Act, 2004
The Madhya Pradesh Govansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam, 2004 prohibits the slaughter of cow progeny, including cows, bulls, bullocks, and calves, throughout the state of Madhya Pradesh. It applies to all individuals within the state, making it illegal to slaughter cattle, possess beef, or transport cow progeny outside the state for slaughter. The law empowers authorities to inspect premises and search vehicles, sets penalties of up to three years imprisonment or fines for violations, and classifies offences as cognizable and non-bailable. By supporting institutions that care for aged or infirm cattle and offering economic rehabilitation to affected individuals, the Act aims to protect cattle welfare, maintain public peace, and foster communal harmony across the state.
