This Act protects drinking water in Madhya Pradesh in times of scarcity. The Collector can declare a water-scarcity area, and then prohibit taking water from sources there for irrigation or industry and ban digging tube wells without permission. Such orders override other arrangements, can be appealed and reviewed, and breaking them is an offence.
