The Madhya Pradesh General Sales Tax Act, 1958

This Act levied sales tax on the sale of goods in Madhya Pradesh. Its Schedules list goods and the rate of tax on each, such as iron and steel, paddy, unginned cotton and cooked food. It covered registration of dealers, returns, assessment and collection of tax, and was later replaced by value added tax and then GST.
