1. Short title, extent and commencement

- (1) This Regulation may be called the Union territory of Ladakh (Sitting of Bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh in Ladakh) Regulation, 2026.
- (2) It extends to the whole of the Union territory of Ladakh.
- (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Administrator may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Explanation.––For the purposes of this sub-section, the expression “Administrator” means the Administrator of the Union territory of Ladakh appointed by the President under article 239 of the Constitution.
2. Principal seat and sitting of bench of common High Court
Statutory text
- (1) The principal seat of the common High Court shall be at the same place at which the principal seat of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh is located before the commencement of this Regulation.
- (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (1), the Judges and division courts of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh may also sit at such place in the Union territory of Ladakh as the Chief Justice may, with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, appoint.
- (3) The Chief Justice of that High Court may, in his discretion, order that any case or class of cases arising in the Union territory of Ladakh shall be heard at Srinagar or Jammu, as the case may be.
