Bare Act
The Pampa River Basin Authority Act 2009
This Act establishes the Pampa River Basin Authority to conserve, protect, and sustainably manage the Pampa River and its surrounding water resources in Kerala. It applies to government departments, local self-government institutions, industries, and the public operating within the river basin. The statute empowers the authority to coordinate conservation projects under the Pampa Action Plan, restrict harmful resource exploitation, enforce waste discharge controls, and prevent pollution. This legislation matters because the Pampa River holds immense cultural and religious significance as a sacred waterway for Sabarimala temple pilgrims, making its environmental protection and water quality management vital for public health, ecology, and religious heritage.
