Bare Act
The Non-Resident Keralites' Welfare Act 2008
This legislation establishes a comprehensive social security framework and welfare fund for people from Kerala who live and work outside the state, whether elsewhere in India or abroad. Managed by a dedicated state welfare board, the law allows eligible individuals aged eighteen to fifty-five to register and make regular monthly contributions, which are supplemented by government grants and investment returns. In exchange, members and their dependents receive critical financial benefits, including retirement pensions, disability allowances, medical treatment assistance, emergency grants, and aid for housing, education, and self-employment. It provides a vital safety net for migrant workers and repatriated citizens, safeguarding the long-term well-being of families reliant on overseas and interstate employment.
