Bare Act
The KERALA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION (ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AS RESPECTS THE SERVICES UNDER LOCAL AUTHORITIES) ACT, 1973
This Act regulates the recruitment, appointment, promotion, and transfer of staff within local government bodies in the state of Kerala. It applies to municipal corporations, panchayats, township committees, development authorities, and town planning trusts, along with their respective appointing officers. The law mandates that these local entities must consult the Kerala Public Service Commission to determine candidate suitability and standardize hiring rules. This matters because it establishes a centralized, independent oversight system over local public sector employment. This ensures fair, merit-based recruitment, prevents arbitrary local hiring decisions, and guarantees transparency across all of these local self-government institutions.
