Bare Act
The Anti Social activities (Prevention) Act
This law empowers the Kerala state government and authorized officials to order the preventive detention of repeat offenders, known as goondas or rowdies, to maintain public order and prevent anti-social activities. It applies to individuals habitually involved in criminal acts within Kerala, as well as those absconding or harbouring detained offenders. Authorities can execute detention orders, conduct searches, and confiscate property used in unlawful acts. To safeguard individual rights, cases must be reviewed by an Advisory Board headed by a High Court judge. It matters because it provides state authorities with extraordinary powers to suppress organized crime while setting strict procedural safeguards against arbitrary detention.
