Environmental197216 sections

This law regulates private forests in the state of Kerala to prevent their alienation or loss to the government. It applies to owners of private forests, including lessees and mortgagees, and requires them to obtain prior permission from the District Collector before selling, mortgaging, or leasing the land. The Act defines what constitutes a private forest, excluding certain agricultural lands and plantations. It was enacted temporarily to preserve forest cover and prevent unauthorized transfer of forested land, though it ceased to have effect on December 31, 1973.
