THE KERALA PAYMENT OF PENSION TO MEMBERS OF LEGISLATURE ACT, 1976
The Kerala Payment of Pension to Members of Legislature Act, 1976
This Act regulates the retirement welfare of former state legislators in Kerala by establishing a statutory framework for their monthly pensions, free travel coupons, and government medical care. It applies to former members of the Kerala Legislative Assembly and its historical predecessor chambers, along with their surviving spouses and dependent children under specific criteria. By defining exact eligibility, accrued payout rates, and family pension transfers, this law matters because it guarantees stable financial security for public servants and their immediate families after their elected service ends, while establishing clear legal boundaries for the distribution of these public state pension benefits.
