Statutory text

(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act but subject to the provisions of sub-section (2), every owner of a place in which a lift or escalator has been erected and is being worked immediately before the commencement of this Act, may continue the working of such lift or escalator at such place.
(2) Every person entitled to continue the working of a lift or escalator under sub-section (1), shall not continue the working of such lift or escalator after such period as may be prescribed, unless he obtains a licence under section 4 in respect of such lift or escalator.
(3) Every application for a licence under sub-section (2), shall be in such form and shall be accompanied by such fees, as may be prescribed.
