Bare Act
The Kerala Land Development Act, 1964
This law regulates land development in the state of Kerala by establishing the Kerala Land Development Board and District Committees. It authorizes developing land into "Padasekharam"—grouped areas suitable for unified cultivation and irrigation work. The Act enables the government to formulate land development schemes for effective water management, conservation, and eco-restoration. By setting up institutional structures and prescribing powers for executing officers, the legislation facilitates organizing land for better agricultural production while protecting natural resources. Its purpose is to modernize land use patterns, improve crop yields, and ensure sustainable management of Kerala's fertile but varied terrain.
