ESTABLISHMENT, CONSTITUTION AND DISSOLUTION OF THE KERALA KHADI AND VILLAGE INDUSTRIES BOARD
The Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board Act 1957
The Act establishes the Kerala Khadi and Village Industries Board to promote khadi (hand-woven cloth) and village industries in Kerala. The Board functions as a corporate body with powers to acquire property and enter contracts, comprising appointed members including non-officials with interest in these industries and government officials, with representation from scheduled castes and tribes. The government can declare various industries as "village industries" through notifications, and the Board appoints a chairman, vice-chairman, and Secretary. This legislation safeguards traditional livelihoods in rural areas by providing structured governance and support for cottage industries that conserve cultural heritage while enabling sustainable economic development.
