The Bangalore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, 1996
The Bangalore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act, 1996 provides for the acquisition and transfer of the historic Bangalore Palace, its surrounding lands, and associated heritage art and artifacts to the Karnataka State Government. It applies to the legal heirs of the former Maharaja of Mysore, third-party transferees, creditors, and government authorities. The legislation transfers ownership of the palace estate to the state for public interest, creating a dedicated Board of Trustees to preserve the property, establish public parks, and build botanical gardens. Additionally, it appoints a Commissioner of Payments to settle financial claims against prior owners out of state-provided compensation.
