General202522 sections
The Karnataka Social Boycott Act addresses the violence and discrimination experienced by individuals when religious or caste groups issue collective social bans. It applies specifically to groups referred to as caste panchayats and the individuals they seek to punish through groups of exclusion. This law matters because it prohibits traditional practices that economically and socially ruin people’s lives and obstructs their religious freedom, thereby protecting fundamental human rights against communal coercion.
