The Karnataka Relief Undertakings (Special Provisions) Act, 1977

General19778 sections

This Act regulates State industrial undertakings in Karnataka that are taken over by the government or receive state loans or guarantees. It allows the State Government to declare these undertakings as "relief undertakings" to help prevent unemployment. To ensure these businesses can continue operating, the law gives the government temporary power to suspend or modify certain labor laws, contracts, and legal remedies. This special authority allows the government to override other laws and court orders for a specific period, up to twelve years, to stabilize the industry and protect jobs.
