Bare Act
The Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Medicare Service Personnel and Damage to Property in Medicare Service Institutions Act, 2009
This Act prohibits violence against healthcare service personnel and damage to property in healthcare institutions throughout Karnataka. It applies to all medical professionals including doctors, nurses, students, and para-medical workers, as well as facilities ranging from government hospitals to private nursing homes and maternity homes. Offenders who attack medical staff or damage equipment face prison sentences of up to three years and fines up to fifty thousand rupees. An additional penalty equals twice the value of damaged property, recoverable through land revenue procedures. These provisions protect medical facilities from disruption while ensuring healthcare workers can perform their duties safely without intimidation or physical harm.
