The Karnataka Fishing Harbour Terminals Authority Act, 1986
This Act establishes the Karnataka Fishing Harbour Terminals Authority to oversee, develop, regulate, and maintain fishing harbour terminals across the state of Karnataka, excluding major national ports and deep-sea fishing beyond territorial waters. It applies to commercial fishing operators, vessel owners, fish merchants, terminal managers, and workers operating within designated state fishing harbours. By creating a unified corporate body led by fisheries officials and industry representatives, the law aims to ensure hygienic fish handling, safe vessel traffic, modernized storage facilities, proper infrastructure maintenance, and fair fee collection. Ultimately, it strengthens coastal fisheries management and protects public investments in harbor infrastructure.
