Short title and extent

(1) This Act may be called the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, 1971. (2) It extends to the whole India: Provided that every person in respect of whom an order of detention made under the Jammu and Kashmir Preventive Detention Act, 1964 (J&K Act XIII of 1964), is in force immediately before the commencement of the Defence and Internal Security of India Act, 1971, shall continue to be governed by the provisions of that Act in respect of such detention as if this Act had not been extended to the State of Jammu Kashmir.
