Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Establishments (National and Festival) Holidays Act, 1974
This Act establishes a legal framework for granting holidays to workers in Jammu and Kashmir's industrial sectors. It applies to employees in factories and other designated industrial establishments. The law mandates that every employee receive specific national holidays, such as Republic Day and Independence Day, along with four additional festival holidays and a fixed holiday on July 13th. Employers must display these holiday schedules clearly. Crucially, the Act ensures that employees are paid their regular wages for these days, even if they do not work. If an employee works on a scheduled holiday, they are entitled to double pay or a substitute day off with pay within six months.
