Bare Act
The Jammu and Kashmir Identification of Prisoners Act, 1937
Criminal19949 sections
This Act mandates that people convicted of offences punishable with at least one year of rigorous imprisonment, those ordered to give security for good behaviour, or those arrested in connection with such offences must allow police to take their finger and foot impressions and photographs when required. Magistrates may also order measurements during investigations. Resisting such measures is a criminal offence. Any measurements or photographs taken must be destroyed if the person is acquitted or released without trial, unless a court directs otherwise. The Act balances the need for proper identification of serious offenders with safeguards for individuals.
