The Jammu and Kashmir Extraction of Resin Act, 1988

This law in the state of Jammu and Kashmir controls the removal of resin from Churchill and kail trees. It forbids private individuals from extracting, moving, dealing with, or storing resin, reserving those powers for the government alone. Resin extracted must be stored at state-designated depots and sold to Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited for processing. Any surplus products are then sold to small and medium businesses following prices fixed by the government. Offences under the act are punishable by imprisonment for three to five years.
