Bare Act
The Himachal Pradesh Prohibition of Sale of Loose Cigarettes and Beedies and Regulation of Retail Business of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2016
This Act bans the sale of loose cigarettes and beedies throughout Himachal Pradesh while requiring anyone selling tobacco products to register first with a designated authority. The legislation defines what counts as cigarettes and beedies, establishes registration processes for retailers, mandates that certificates be displayed visibly in shops, and makes clear the Act applies to all natural persons, partnerships, corporations, and other legal entities conducting business. It creates strict compliance measures to prevent unregulated tobacco sales while establishing registration periods taking three years and providing penalties for violations, reflecting the state government's public health objectives to control tobacco distribution more effectively.
