The Himachal Pradesh Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1972
This law regulates employment in Himachal Pradesh that the government deems essential for public safety, health, sanitation, or maintaining life-sustaining supplies. It applies to both state government employees and other workers in critical sectors. The government can order these workers to remain in specific areas and set rules for their wages and working conditions. Violating these orders, abandoning work without reason, or an employer discontinuing employment without cause is considered an offence punishable by imprisonment for up to three years. The Act ensures that critical services continue uninterrupted during emergencies or for the community's well-being.
