Bare Act
The Haryana Water Resources (Conservation, Regulation and Management) Authority Act, 2020
This law establishes a dedicated state authority to oversee, conserve, and manage both surface water and groundwater resources across Haryana. It applies to all individuals, farmers, industrial entities, commercial establishments, and local governmental bodies within the state. Under this legislation, the state prepares comprehensive water security and management plans, regulates groundwater extraction through a mandatory permission process, promotes rainwater harvesting, and recommends water tariffs. The Act matters because it addresses severe groundwater depletion and water scarcity by enforcing efficient usage, preventing pollution, encouraging recycling, and ensuring sustainable, equitable water distribution for future domestic, agricultural, and industrial needs.
