This Act vests village common lands (shamilat deh) in Haryana in the village panchayats. It regulates how such land is used, occupied and disposed of, protects the panchayat's rights against certain transfers, and lets the authorities put panchayats in possession. Income from the land must be used for village purposes, no compensation is payable for the vesting, and unlawful occupation is an offence.
