Bare Act
The Maharishi Markandeshwar University (Establishment and Regulation) Act, 2010
This legislation establishes and regulates the Maharishi Markandeshwar University in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, set up by the Maharishi Markandeshwar University Trust as a self-financed private university. It governs the university's governance structures, academic programs, faculty appointments, fee fixation, student admissions, and financial management. The law applies to the university administration, teaching staff, employees, prospective and enrolled students, as well as state regulatory authorities. It matters because it ensures that a private higher education institution operates transparently, maintains recognized academic standards, provides reservation for local and reserved category students, and protects student interests through state oversight, audit requirements, and standardized procedures.
