THE PUNJAB ANCIENT AND HISTORICAL MONUMENTS AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AND REMAINS ACT, 1964
The Haryana Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964
This Act provides a legal framework for the preservation of ancient and historical monuments and archaeological sites that are not classified as being of "national importance" by the Central Government. It empowers the State Government to declare specific sites as "protected monuments" or "protected areas," thereby regulating activities like construction, mining, and excavation within or near these locations. The Act establishes rules for the maintenance of these sites, the acquisition of antiquities, and the rights of owners. For the ordinary citizen, this law ensures that local heritage is protected from destruction or misuse, while also imposing restrictions on property development near these protected sites.
