Bare Act
Haryana Municipal Common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1974
This Act regulates the management and ownership of common lands within municipal areas in the State of Haryana. It applies to Municipal Committees, landowners, and occupants occupying municipal common lands which are areas not held exclusively by any person and reserved for community use. The legislation vests rights and titles to such municipal common lands in Municipal Committees while empowering the State Government to regulate their use, sale, lease, and disposal with prior approval. It authorizes the Collector to evict unauthorized occupants and assess damages, establishes an appeal process to the Commissioner, and bars civil courts from interfering with these administrative decisions. The Act matters because it provides a clear legal framework to prevent unauthorized occupation of public lands, ensure efficient management of common lands for community benefit, and protect municipal authorities from civil court interference.
