Bare Act
The Haryana Legislative Assembly Proceedings (Protection of Publication) Act, 1978
The Haryana Legislative Assembly Proceedings (Protection of Publication) Act, 1978 shields media organizations, journalists, publishers, and broadcasters from legal action when reporting on state legislative debates. It grants immunity from civil lawsuits and criminal prosecution to anyone who publishes or broadcasts a substantially true report of the proceedings of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. However, this legal protection does not extend to reports published with bad intention (malice) or reports that do not serve the public interest. By protecting honest journalists, the law ensures that citizens receive reliable information about what their elected representatives say and do inside the Assembly.
