The following Act of the Gujarat Legislature, having been assented
The Gujarat Water Users' Participatory Irrigation Management Act, 2007
This Act governs irrigation management throughout Gujarat, prioritizing the direct participation of local water users in managing agricultural resources. It applies to landholders who rely on water from minor canals and establishes dedicated Water Users' Associations to oversee and maintain irrigation infrastructure. The legislation empowers citizen committees to take responsibility for irrigation facilities while establishing rotatable water supply systems that allocate resources fairly based on each plot's cultivated area. By transforming passive beneficiaries into active managers of water resources, the framework seeks to resolve water scarcity problems more effectively, increase agricultural productivity, and ensure sustainable use of Gujarat's valuable water resources for future generations.
