Gujarat Vacant Lands in Urban Areas (Prohibition of Alienation) Act, 1972
This Act prohibits the transfer of vacant lands in urban areas throughout Gujarat. It defines urban areas, vacant land, and various government authorities including city limits, municipal boroughs, and state appointees. Effective from the appointed day, no person may sell, mortgage, gift, lease, or otherwise transfer vacant land without specific exceptions. Any contraventions are considered null and void. Violating this law can lead to imprisonment of up to three years, fines up to five thousand rupees, or both. The State Government has the power to exempt properties when deemed necessary. Companies face penalties if individuals in charge fail to prevent offenses or if directors are complicit.
