1. Short title

This Act may be called the Bombay Home Guards (Gujarat Amendment) Act, 1980.
2. Amendment of section 2 of Bom. III of 1947
Statutory text
In the Bombay Home Guards Act, 1947, in section 2, in sub-section (1), for the words "the security of property and the public safety" the words "the security of property, the public safety and the maintenance of essential services" shall be substituted.
3. Insertion of new section 5A in Bom. III of 1947

-1 3. Insertion of new section 5A in Bom. III of 1947. In the Bombay Home Guards Act, 1947 (hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act"), after section 5, the following section shall be inserted, namely :—
"5A.
- (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, the State Government or any authority authorised in this behalf by the State Government may, by order, call out any member of the Home Guards for the purpose of assisting the police or any other authority in the maintenance of essential services.
- (2) Every member of the Home Guards, when called out under sub-section (1), shall have the same powers, privileges and liabilities as a member of the Home Guards has when called out under section 5."
