Bare Act
The Gujarat State Commission for Women Act, 2002
The Gujarat State Commission for Women Act, 2002 establishes a permanent statutory body to protect and promote the rights, safety, and welfare of women across the State of Gujarat. It applies to all women, including female children and adolescent girls, as well as state departments, police, and custodial institutions. The Act empowers the Commission to investigate complaints of atrocities and rights violations, inspect places of custody like jails and remand homes, review laws affecting women, fund public-interest litigation, and advise the government on socio-economic policies. Ultimately, it ensures dedicated legal oversight and policy guidance to foster gender equality and prevent systemic discrimination.
