The Gujarat Prevention of Fragmentation and Consolidation of Holdings Act, 1947

This law prevents the excessive division of agricultural land into tiny, unviable plots and promotes the consolidation of scattered land parcels into larger, unified holdings. It applies to agricultural landowners, farmers, and land administrative authorities in Gujarat. By stopping the creation of impractical land fragments and establishing government-guided consolidation schemes, the law enables efficient farming practices, improves crop productivity, and simplifies land management. It also sets procedures for compensating affected owners and transferring existing mortgages or encumbrances to newly allotted plots. Ultimately, it protects rural livelihoods by ensuring agricultural land remains economically viable for cultivation.
