Bare Act
The Gujarat Panchayats (Gramdan Provisions) Act, 1966
Infrastructure19668 sections
This Act provides the legal framework for establishing Gramdan villages in Gujarat, where land is donated for community welfare. It applies to regions where a significant percentage of landowners or residents agree to donate their land. Once a village is officially declared a Gramdan Gram, the standard local government Panchayat is dissolved to make way for a newly formed Gram Sabha. This village-level assembly takes over responsibility for managing donated lands and village development, ensuring that collective decision-making and community resources directly benefit the residents rather than acting through traditional local councils.
