Bare Act
Metropolitan Planning Committees Act, Gujarat Year 2008
General200812 sections
The Gujarat Metropolitan Planning Committees Act of 2008 sets up planning bodies to manage the growth of large urban regions. It applies to designated metropolitan areas in Gujarat, bringing together local city municipalities, village panchayats, and state officials. Instead of each town and village planning in isolation, the Act requires an elected committee to prepare an overall development plan for the entire region. This matters because it unites city and rural governance, coordinating shared needs like water supplies, transportation networks, natural resources, and environmental protection. As a result, rapidly expanding metropolitan areas grow in an organized, balanced, and sustainable way.
