The Gujarat Local Authorities (Extension of Term and Laws Amendment) Act, 1978
The Gujarat Local Authorities (Extension of Term and Laws Amendment) Act, 1978 temporarily extends the official terms of local governance bodies across Gujarat, including gram panchayats, nagar panchayats, and municipalities, through June 30, 1979. It also prolongs the period of state administration for specific suspended municipalities, such as Botad and Jamnagar. To prevent administrative disruptions, the law authorizes designated state government officers to manage daily municipal and panchayat duties whenever elected officials terms expire, remaining in charge until new elections occur. This legislation ensures uninterrupted local public services, continuous local leadership, and orderly administrative transitions throughout the state.
