THE GUJARAT LABOUR WELFARE FUND ACT, 1953
The Gujarat Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1953
The Gujarat Labour Welfare Fund Act, 1953 establishes a dedicated statutory welfare fund to finance social, educational, and recreational programs for workers in Gujarat. It applies to employees and employers in factories, public transport services, and commercial establishments employing ten or more persons, while excluding managerial staff. The fund is managed by an independent tri-partite board and financed through semi-annual contributions from employers, employees, and the state government, as well as unpaid worker accumulations and employee fines. By converting unclaimed wages into community benefits like libraries, sports facilities, and vocational training, the law ensures improved living standards and social security for laborers.
