The Goa Prohibition of Smoking and Spitting Act, 1997 bans smoking and spitting in designated public places and public transport throughout the State of Goa. It restricts the promotion of tobacco products and prohibits selling any tobacco or nicotine substances to individuals under twenty-one years of age. Additionally, it bans storing or selling tobacco products within one hundred meters of educational institutions and places of worship. Property managers must post visible warning notices. The legislation applies to residents, tourists, business operators, and vendors in Goa. By enforcing these rules through fines and ejection, the Act aims to improve public health, maintain hygiene, and deter youth tobacco consumption.
