1. Short title and commencement

Short title and commencement.—(1) This Act may be called the Goa (Extension of the Dowry Prohibition Act) Act, 1990.
- (2) It shall come into force at once.
2. Extension of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961
Statutory text
Extension of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.—The Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (Central Act 28 of 1961) as in force in the territories to which it extends are hereby extended to, and shall be in force in, the whole of the State of Goa.
3. Repeal and saving
Statutory text
Repeal and saving.—(1) Any law in force in the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu immediately before the commencement of this Act corresponding to the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (Central Act 28 of 1961), shall stand repealed as from such commencement:
Provided that the repeal shall not affect—
- (a) the previous operation of any law so repealed or anything duly done or suffered thereunder;
- (b) any right, privilege, obligation or liability acquired, accrued or incurred under any law so repealed;
- (c) any penalty, forfeiture or punishment incurred in respect of any offence committed against any law so repealed;
- (d) any investigation, legal proceeding or remedy in respect of any such right, privilege, obligation, liability, penalty, forfeiture or punishment as aforesaid, and any such investigation, legal proceeding or remedy may be instituted, continued or enforced, and any such penalty, forfeiture or punishment may be imposed as if this Act had not been passed.
- (2) Subject to the provisions contained in the proviso to sub-section (1), anything done or any action taken under the law so repealed shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the corresponding provisions of this Act, and shall continue to be in force accordingly unless and until superseded by anything done or any action taken under this Act.
