Bare Act
The Goa 1 Salaries and Allowances of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker Act, 1964
This Act establishes the financial compensation, allowances, and perks for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly. It entitles the Speaker to salaries, travel allowances, sumptuary funds, and housing amenities equivalent to those provided to the Chief Minister, while the Deputy Speaker receives benefits comparable to a Cabinet Minister. To ensure dedication and prevent conflicts of interest, the Act explicitly forbids the Speaker from engaging in outside trades or professions for pay. Additionally, it clarifies that neither official may draw duplicate salaries as regular members of the assembly. This law matters because it ensures fair, transparent remuneration for key legislative leaders.
